Every child has the right to learn in a safe and pleasant environment.  All students in my class are expected to be respectful, responsible and safe. These three ideals make up the foundation of my classroom rules.
  • Listen and follow directions.
  • Respect your classmates and teacher.
  • Work quietly.
  • Try your best every time.
Students who fail to comply with these expectations will be given an opportunity to reflect upon and improve their behavior. I am a firm believer in the need for problem solving in the classroom. Most discipline problems occur when children lack the knowledge and skills to respond appropriately.

Here is the outline of my discipline plan:

Prevention
Most behaviors can be prevented by simple things such as classroom arrangement, teacher proximity, structure of lessons, etc.

1. Warning
Students will receive a visual warning.

2. Time-Out (Level 1)
Students will be separated from the group but will remain in the classroom.

3. Time-Out (Level 2)
Students will have time-out in a buddy classroom. A note will be written in the agenda.

4. Extended Time-Out
Students who continue to have difficulty will be separated from the group for the remainder of the day. Please note that students will be in the classroom at this stage. Students will also receive a phone call home.

Follow-Up
Students will meet with the teacher to discuss the previous day's incidents.

Communication between school and home is very important. Please check your child's agenda nightly. Please also sign your child's discipline report located on the back of the home folder weekly.
